Step-by-Step Guide
This guide walks you through how to buy and sell materials on Build Mat Mart, from start to finish.
For Buyers
1. Browse or Search
Browse:
Explore available building materials and filter listings by category, price and distance from your location.
Click the search icon in the top bar without entering a keyword, or select "Browse All" from the menu.
Use the filters on the listing page to narrow results by category, price and distance.
Use the sort option to arrange results by listing age or price.
Search:
Looking for something specific? Use the search bar at the top of the page or on the homepage and enter a keyword, material type or description.
You can then use the filters and sorting options to narrow down the results.
2. Review the Listing
Select a listing to review the available information before purchasing.
Listings will include:
- Photos
- Price
- Quantity
- Description
- Material condition
- Location
- Delivery and/or pickup options
- Available payment options
- Seller information
To learn more about the seller, select "View Profile" under the seller's name. Here you can view their reviews and other materials they have listed.
Have a question?
Use the "Message Seller" button on the listing to message the seller about the materials, quantities, condition, delivery, collection or anything else you need to know before purchasing.
Your messages can be accessed through your Inbox when signed in to Build Mat Mart.
3. Purchase or Make an Offer
Buy Now:
If you're satisfied with the listing details and are ready to purchase, click "Buy Now".
If applicable, select the number of items you wish to purchase.
You will then be able to proceed using the payment option available for that listing.
Make an Offer:
If you'd like to negotiate the price, click "Make an Offer".
- Enter the amount you would like to offer using numbers only — the $ symbol is not required.
- The seller can accept, decline or make a counter-offer.
- If the seller accepts your offer, you will receive a notification allowing you to continue with the transaction at the agreed price.
- If the seller makes a counter-offer, you can accept or decline it.
4. Choose Your Payment Option
Depending on the options made available by the seller, you may be able to choose between:
OPTION 1 — Build Mat Mart Secure Payment - Recommended
Pay online through Build Mat Mart's secure payment system, powered by Stripe.
- Enter your card and billing details.
- Add any additional information you would like to provide to the seller.
- Review the order details.
- Click "Confirm and Pay" to complete your payment.
- Once payment is completed, you will be taken to the order page where you can view the transaction details, order history and messages with the seller.
- Your order page can be accessed through your Build Mat Mart Inbox at any time.
Payment is processed securely through Stripe and the seller's payout is not released until the transaction reaches the required completion stage.
OPTION 2 — Pay Seller Directly
Where the seller offers Pay Seller Directly, you can arrange payment directly with the seller.
The seller will provide or agree with you on their accepted payment method, which may include bank transfer, cash or another payment method agreed between you and the seller.
Use Build Mat Mart messaging to confirm the price, quantity, delivery or pickup arrangements and payment terms before proceeding.
IMPORTANT — DIRECT PAYMENT DISCLAIMER
Payments made directly between buyers and sellers are not processed through Build Mat Mart or Stripe.
Build Mat Mart does not hold, receive, process or control funds paid directly to a seller. Transactions completed outside Build Mat Mart's secure payment system do not receive the payment protections available through the Build Mat Mart Secure Payment process.
Buyers are responsible for satisfying themselves as to the materials, seller and agreed transaction terms before making a direct payment. Any refunds, returns, payment disputes or other issues relating to a direct payment must be resolved directly between the buyer and seller, subject to any rights or obligations that may apply under Australian law.
Where possible, keep your communication within Build Mat Mart messaging so there is a record of what has been agreed.
5. Arrange Delivery or Pickup
Once you and the seller have agreed to proceed, arrange delivery or collection based on the options available on the listing.
Delivery:
Confirm delivery arrangements with the seller, including:
- Delivery address
- Date and approximate time
- Site access
- Unloading requirements
- Who is responsible for unloading
- Any additional delivery conditions
Make sure these details are agreed before delivery to help avoid delays or misunderstandings.
Pickup:
Confirm the pickup arrangements with the seller before travelling.
Make sure:
- The seller knows when you are arriving.
- Your vehicle is suitable for the materials being collected.
- You have appropriate straps, tie-downs, covers or other equipment required to safely secure the load.
- Loading arrangements have been agreed with the seller.
You may also arrange your own courier or logistics provider where appropriate.
6. Receive & Inspect Your Materials
At delivery or collection, inspect the materials and check that they match the listing and what was agreed with the seller.
Check, where applicable:
- Material type
- Quantity
- Condition
- Dimensions
- Visible damage or defects
If the materials differ materially from what was listed or agreed, raise this with the seller before accepting or confirming receipt.
If you're satisfied, take receipt of the materials as arranged.
7. Complete the Transaction
Build Mat Mart Secure Payment
If you paid using Build Mat Mart Secure Payment:
- Open the order page from your Inbox.
- Once you have received and inspected the materials, click "I've received my order".
This confirms receipt and allows the transaction to proceed to completion and the seller's payout to be released.
Pay Seller Directly
If you selected Pay Seller Directly, payment and completion are handled directly between you and the seller in accordance with the arrangements you agreed.
Build Mat Mart does not process or release funds for direct-payment transactions.
8. Leave a Review
After completing your transaction, leave a review to share your experience and help other Build Mat Mart users make informed decisions.
Where the transaction supports platform reviews:
- Open the transaction from your Inbox.
- Rate your experience.
- Leave a helpful review.
For Sellers
1. Create a Listing
Click "Post a new listing" in the top navigation bar.
Details
- Select the appropriate category.
- Add a clear listing title.
- Provide an accurate description of the materials.
- Select the correct material condition.
Pricing & Stock
- Enter your selling price using numbers only — the $ symbol is not required.
- For a single item or bulk quantity being sold as one complete lot, set the stock quantity to 1.
- If buyers can purchase individual items from the available stock, enter the total quantity available.
Delivery
Choose whether you offer:
- Buyer pickup
- Seller-arranged delivery
- Both pickup and delivery
If offering delivery, you can set an additional delivery charge and applicable delivery radius.
Photos
Add clear photographs that accurately show the materials and their condition. We recommend adding at least 2–3 clear photos.

2. Select Your Payment Options
Choose how you are willing to accept payment from buyers.
Depending on the listing options available, you can offer:
OPTION 1 — Build Mat Mart Secure Payment
Allow buyers to pay securely online through Build Mat Mart, powered by Stripe.
To accept secure payments, you must complete your Payout Details.
To add your payout details:
- Click your account icon in the top-right corner.
- Select "Account Settings".
- Select "Payout Details".
- Complete the requested information.
This information is required by the payment provider before you can receive payouts from secure transactions.
OPTION 2 — Pay Seller Directly
Allow the buyer to pay you directly using a payment method agreed between you and the buyer.
You can arrange your preferred payment method directly with the buyer.
IMPORTANT — DIRECT PAYMENT DISCLAIMER
Payments arranged directly with buyers are outside Build Mat Mart's secure payment system and are not processed, held or controlled by Build Mat Mart or Stripe.
You are responsible for agreeing the payment method and terms with the buyer and confirming that payment has been received where applicable before releasing the materials.
Build Mat Mart cannot process refunds, reverse payments, recover unpaid amounts or resolve payment disputes relating to payments made directly between buyers and sellers. Any such matters must be handled between the parties, subject to any applicable rights and obligations under Australian law.
For your protection, we recommend keeping transaction-related communication within Build Mat Mart messaging wherever possible.
2. Receive Enquiries & Offers
Enquiries
Buyers can contact you directly through Build Mat Mart with questions about your listing.
You will receive a notification when you receive a new message.
Messages can be accessed through your Inbox.
Offers
Buyers may also submit an offer through Build Mat Mart.
When you receive an offer, you can:
- Accept the offer
- Decline the offer
- Make a counter-offer
If an offer or counter-offer is accepted, the transaction can continue at the newly agreed price.
4. Receive Payment
How payment is handled depends on the payment option selected for the transaction.
Build Mat Mart Secure Payment
The buyer completes payment securely through Build Mat Mart, powered by Stripe.
Once the payment has been successfully completed, you can proceed with the agreed delivery or pickup arrangements.
Your payout is released once the transaction reaches the required completion stage.
Pay Seller Directly
Agree your preferred payment method directly with the buyer.
You are responsible for confirming that the agreed payment has been received before handing over or dispatching the materials where payment is required before delivery or collection.
No Seller Fees
Whether you choose to accept payment through Build Mat Mart Secure Payment or Pay Seller Directly, you receive the agreed sale amount with no Build Mat Mart seller transaction fee deducted from your sale proceeds.
Where a buyer selects Build Mat Mart Secure Payment, any applicable buyer service or payment fee will be shown to the buyer as part of their transaction before payment.
5. Arrange Delivery or Pickup
Arrange delivery or collection directly with the buyer based on the option selected.
Delivery
Confirm:
- Delivery address
- Date and approximate time
- Site access
- Unloading requirements
- Any other relevant delivery information
You may use your own delivery service or arrange an external courier or logistics provider.
Pickup
Agree on a suitable pickup time with the buyer and provide any necessary access or loading instructions.
Avoid releasing materials to an unidentified buyer or courier where you cannot reasonably connect them with the agreed transaction.
6. Complete the Transaction
At delivery or collection, allow the buyer a reasonable opportunity to inspect the materials and confirm that they match the listing and agreed transaction.
If there is an issue, discuss it with the buyer before completing the handover where reasonably possible.
Build Mat Mart Secure Payment
Once the materials have been delivered or collected:
- Open the order page from your Inbox.
- Click "Materials delivered/collected".
- The transaction will update to await confirmation from the buyer.
- Once the buyer confirms receipt, your payout can be released.
Pay Seller Directly
For a direct-payment transaction, confirm payment and handover directly with the buyer in accordance with your agreed arrangements.
Build Mat Mart does not confirm, process or release funds for direct-payment transactions.
7. Get Paid
Build Mat Mart Secure Payment
Once the buyer confirms receipt and the payout is released, the funds will be sent to the bank account connected to your payout details.
The time taken for funds to reach your bank account will depend on Stripe's processing times and your banking provider.
Pay Seller Directly
For direct-payment transactions, you receive payment using the method agreed directly with the buyer.
Build Mat Mart does not handle the transfer of funds.
You Receive Your Agreed Sale Amount
There is no Build Mat Mart seller transaction fee deducted from your sale proceeds, whether the buyer uses Build Mat Mart Secure Payment or pays you directly.
